Meant to say quite sad; too early to spell correctly!!

i don't know if this was discussed here before, but, what is the most ignorant comment you ever heard an elder say.
i once had an elder say to me that my brother, who was at the time fighting in vietnam will be destroyed and killed over in 'nam because he did not accept "jehovah"!!!!
i promptly told him to go "f" himself.

Two stupid things come to mind:
1) My wife (now ex) moved in with another man, and the elders told me that I didn't have "Scriptual grounds" for divorce because she said they were just roommates sharing the rent. The first meeting I had over this, they had read some rule about spending one night under the same roof with someone who is not your marriage mate is grounds for divorce. The next meeting about a week later, they had done a complete reversal and said that I had no proof she was committing adultery. I argued with the one moron for 45 minutes before he admitted that MAYBE they were wrong. (The heated arguement was right out in the hallway!!
2) One elder said in his public talk that people who joke around alot and are not overly serious are like that because they masturbated and it stunted their ability to mature properly. I almost burst out laughing. But it really was quite sas when I glanced around and saw everybody buying into this crap.

some posters to this board, who perhaps are bored posters, have been out of the wts for a long while, some for decades.
i think i understand why you still feel the need to meet here but just wished to hear from you personally.. how long have you been out?
why do you still feel the need to discuss and involve yourselves with jw issues?
"P.S. There are some very bright and funny people here, so it is also entertaining. Conversly, there is Fredhall."
I personally look forward to reading Fredhall's little incoherent one-liners. They make me laugh. Keep it up Fred!!

several posters have asked what i thought of the.
revelations about the wt being associated with the un.
as an ngo so i thought i might make a brief comment on.
Why do most JW's equate the organization and Jehovah as the same thing?
Because that's the way they want it!
How many times have you heard someone say "you are turning your back on Jehovah" if you voice doubts about the organization? To most JW's they are one and the same. Sure, all, without exception, would not say this out loud, but it is the mindset created by the WT society. How many times at conventions when a new piece of literature is released, is the following announced "look what Jehovah has provided" or "we are feeding at the table of Jehovah"? Way back when, while still an MS, I voiced concern over this link being propogated by the Society. I felt it was a form of idolotry. Interestingly my hardcore loyal JW mother agreed that the Society was blurring the destinction between itself and God. For her though, it was okay. For me, it was a problem which bothered my conscience.

its obvious at this point that the wts is covering this thing up.. here is an idea about how we might get the un scandal out to the masses.
materials needed:.
1) 3'x5' un flag ( http://www.flagline.com/countries.html).
Hi,
In my humble opinion, I think this would be a mistake. This would be perceived as "persecution" by the JW's and would hamper any attempts to open their eyes through conventional means. If we (ex-jw's) are cast in the role of extremists, it will be very difficult to be taken seriously.

i want to let all of you know that we have decided not to contest the elders decision to publicly reprove us tonight.
after a lot of thought, we feel in the long run that by letting this go ahead it will only make the elders and the organization look guilty, not us.. the elders have basically ordered us not to talk about what our "crime" is with anyone.
so we have decided that we will tell others what our crime was not, i.e.
MrMoe,
It wasn't reproof for having the beard. And it wasn't attitude that was the issue. It was all about control. The absurdity of the whole situation was that I had been busted for going to a Casino with a single sister, and then going back to her place and doing the nasty. The fornication was completely minimized once they knew that it was not public knowledge. She was super hot, so I think they were kind of sympathetic. I'm sure they all would have done the same thing as me if they had been in my shoes. LOL The Casino was a big deal, they read some long boring article on greed. But it was the beard that consumed the majority of the time spent in front of the JC. The choice was clear: shave it off and I would not be DF'd, just reproved. Keep it, and I was history. They arranged another meeting a week later to see if I "obeyed".
This is why I say it was about control.

Hi Badwillie,
I was publicly reproved before. It's a little embarrassing, but not that big a deal. In fact, I was going to bolt for the door as soon as the meeting was over, but people stopped me, and actually congratulated me! I guess they were congratulating me for being repentant????? It was so bizarre, nothing like I expected. The funny part was,it all boiled down to shaving off my beard. Nevermind the drinking, gambling and hanky-panky that went on! It was all about my beard. Keep it-get DF'd, shave it- public reproof.
For the sake of my parents, I shaved it. About 3 months later, I grew it back. There was nothing those morons could do. It was about that time I left for good.

an ex-jw friend of mine just forwarded this to me.
i know the reputation newfies have among their fellow canadians, but i'm thinking they've gotten a really bad rap!!!.
kudos to the newfies and all our canadian friends .

does anybody honestly think that all this exposure about the wtb&ts and the un really going to matter much in the jw community?
sure, it matters to us, since we already know the truth about the wt.
but it won't even make a dent in the jw population.
Viewing Badwillie's post about being publicly reproved for discussing this UN fiasco makes me think that this issue does indeed matter, but not to the JW's in general. It matters to those who feel that ethical conduct in life, whether personally or as an organized religion, is important. I guess hypocrisy is the key. If it bothers you, this issue matters. If it doesn't bother you, or you find hypocrisy only in all the other religions (due to turning a blind eye to the obvious), then it won't matter.
Maybe if Badwillie's experience gets broad exposure, it will help open the eyes of loyal JW's. After all, anybody who ever has had any dealings with the elders will relate to his experience. I know, I went through it with the beard issue 10 years ago. Most elders I knew were losers in the real world, barely holding down a job. But when they become elders, it is their one and only chance to be a somebody, and, by golly, they are going to rub it in. Common sense goes out the window and egos fire up. Of course, there were some decent fellas who were elders, but this was an exception, not the rule.
Dan
